Claire Sawers hosts an evening of readings and discussions with authors Allan Radcliffe, Zoë Strachan, and Louise Welsh.

Together we will explore the intersection of LGBTQ+ identities and the written word, and gain an insight into the creative and personal challenges faced by LGBTQ+ authors in hostile times.

Line Up

Allan Radcliffe's debut novel The Old Haunts was shortlisted for Scotland’s National Book Awards and for the McKitterick Prize and was adapted as a BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime. His short stories have been published in anthologies including Out There, The Best Gay Short Stories and New Writing Scotland and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. His latest novel is Blurred Faces.

Zoë Strachan is an award-winning author who was shortlisted for the Green Carnation Prize for her novel Ever Fallen in Love. In 2014, she edited Out There, then the first anthology of LGBTQ+ writing from Scotland in over 20 years. Her most recent book is Catch The Moments as They Fly. 

Louise Welsh was voted the “Most Inspiring Saltire First Book Award winner” for her debut novel The Cutting Room. Her latest novel, The Cut Up, is the third to feature gay Glaswegian auctioneer Rilke. With Jude Barber, she presents the award-winning podcast, Who Owns the Clyde?

Claire Sawers is a freelance journalist, living in Edinburgh. Claire has been writing about music and the arts, with an interest in LGBTQ+ issues, for over twenty years. She was deputy editor and music editor at The List magazine for five years and has been published in The Times, The Herald, The Guardian, The Quietus, The Wire and The Scotsman.
