Opportunity: Join the Porty Pride Organising Committee

We’re looking for two enthusiastic and reliable people to become our new committee members.

About Porty Pride

Porty Pride is an intergenerational, intersectional, accessible community-run pride rooted in Portobello, created and lovingly grown by volunteers and driven by our values of inclusion, joy and solidarity. We see community as a positive tool of activism and community-building as a powerful solution to social injustices.

As we plan our next chapter, and ensure Porty Pride’s legacy for a further 5 years.

Who we’re looking for

Porty Pride is both a community of interest and place, and to ensure the Organising Committee is representative of both those communities with a knowledge and understanding of Porty Pride’s values, we require anyone interested to either:

  • Live in Portobello or the surrounding area, or

  • Have volunteered with Porty Pride for a minimum of 3 years

You don’t need previous committee experience, just enthusiasm, reliability, a willingness to put in a few hours a month, and a commitment to our values.

Our commitment to inclusion

At Porty Pride we are committed to building an organising committee that reflects the diversity of the communities we exist for. We especially welcome expressions of interest from racially minoritised communities and from trans and non-binary people whose perspectives are currently under-represented in our group.

What the role involves

  • Helping plan, deliver and lead on Porty Pride events, including attendance at the Pride weekend

  • Attending regular (usually monthly) committee meetings

  • Contributing ideas, skills and lived experience

  • Working collaboratively in a friendly, values-driven team

Porty Pride is entirely run by volunteers (we have no staff), meaning this is a hands-on role involving not only governance decision-making, but also taking a lead on particular areas of work. This means there’s lots of potential for members to bring creative ideas and take the initiative to help make Porty Pride the best it can be.

We aim to be flexible and supportive around access needs, caring responsibilities, and availability.

Why join us?

  • Be part of shaping a much-loved local Pride and ensuring its legacy

  • Contribute to LGBTQ+ equality and other forms of anti-discrimination

  • Build skills and experience in community organising

  • Help create safer, more inclusive spaces in Portobello

  • Work alongside a passionate, welcoming team

How to apply

If you’re interested, please email by 2nd March with:

  • A short note about you (100-200 words) setting out what you’d like to bring to the Committee and why you’d like to join the committee

If you’d like an informal chat before applying, we’re very happy to arrange that.
